HISTORY & PURPOSE

On June 22nd, 2012, Sagamok Anishnawbek and Vale Canada Ltd. signed the Totten Mine Project Impact & Benefits Agreement. In 2015, Sagamok Anishnawbek and FNX Mining Company Inc. signed the Victoria Advanced Exploration Project Impacts and Benefits Agreement. The two agreements (collectively “the IBAs”) describe how Sagamok will participate in the following areas: environment, employment and training, contracts, and procurement.

In response to the opportunities described in the IBAs, Z’gamok Enterprises Inc. was formed as a wholly owned Sagamok organization with the mandate to maximize the economic development opportunities of the Sagamok Anishnawbek First Nation within its traditional lands and within the Northern Ontario region.  ZEI’s first contract was providing janitorial services at Totten Mine.

Over the course of the next few years, ZEI formed several partnerships within the industry to build capacity and bring in revenue.   The two main partnerships stem from agreements with TBell Transport, who executed the Ore Haul, Sandfill Supply, and Road Maintenance contracts at Totten Mine, and Milman Industries who worked with ZEI to perform the Road Maintenance at Totten Mine and the PAG Haul and Site Services contracts at Victoria.

In 2019, ZEI created a limited partnership with Sagamok Anishnawbek called Z’gamok Construction LP (ZCLP) to carry out the contract opportunities stemming from the IBAs and began performing ore haulage, site services and custodial services at the Totten and Victoria mine sites.
